Urn size

What size urn do I need?

Tell us roughly what your pet weighed and we’ll suggest a size that leaves a little room to spare.

Your pet

A rough weight is fine. If you only know a range, use the top of it.

How urn size is worked out

  • About 1 cubic inch for each pound. That is the usual guide: a 10 kg (22 lb) dog needs about 22 cubic inches, roughly 0.36 litres.
  • Use their healthy weight. If they lost weight towards the end, their usual weight gives a better guide.
  • Between two sizes? Go up. Ash volume varies a little, and a bit of space is better than too little.
  • Know the actual volume? If your crematorium gave you one, that beats any weight guide. Send it to us and we’ll check the fit.
What if I’m sharing the ashes?

Some families keep a little in a keepsake and scatter or bury the rest. A keepsake urn only needs a small part of the ashes, so size it for the part you’re keeping.

Is our largest size big enough?

Our largest urn is sized for pets up to 45 kg (about 99 lb). For a bigger dog, message us and we’ll help you find the right option.

Every urn is made by hand in the Lake District. Personalised urns come with a design proof before we make them.
