Pet memorial gifts

A pet memorial gift can be a photograph to keep, a sculpture made from their pet’s features, a garden marker or a simple card with their pet’s name. Choose by where it will be kept and whether the recipient wants a likeness, a place to remember them or something to hold ashes. If you are choosing for someone else, ask before commissioning a portrait or buying an urn; a gift does not need to be personalised to be thoughtful.

Before you order a personalised piece

  • Photos: clear, well-lit pictures of the face, ears and markings matter more than one formal portrait. Most photo pieces take 1 to 5; the Collar Wall Bust needs front and side views. See the photo guide.
  • Wording: type names, dates and short lines exactly as you want them shown.
  • Proofs: the Pet Bust, Memorial Angel and Wall Art each get a proof or preview by email. Other pieces have their own steps, listed on each product page.
  • Timing: dispatched in around 7 working days, not delivered by then. Delivery time is additional.

Choosing a memorial for someone else

Start with what you already have, so they aren't asked to make decisions for you. If you know the pet's name but have no photos, a grave marker only needs the name. For a cat, the Sleeping Cat Statue needs no personalisation at all. If you have good photos and know a likeness would be welcome, the Pet Bust, Memorial Angel and Wall Art are made from them. If you're not sure they'd want an urn, or which photo or words they'd choose, a gift card lets them choose in their own time. Our guide to what to give someone who has lost a pet has more.

Questions

Which kind of pet memorial should I choose?

Start with where it will be kept and what it needs to do: a marker or statue for a garden or grave, an urn if it should hold ashes, or a photo-made piece if their face and look matter most.

Which of these hold ashes?

The Personalised Canopic Urn is made for ashes and comes in three sizes. The Acorn House Keepsake Urn holds ashes or small keepsakes for pets up to 10 kg; its lid rests on top and doesn't seal. The statues, markers, busts and wall pieces are not urns.

Which can go outside?

The Sleeping Cat Statue and the Acorn House urn suit indoors or outdoors. The Canopic Urn and the three grave markers suit a sheltered outdoor spot. The photo busts, angel and wall pieces are for indoors. Check each product's care notes before choosing an exposed spot.

What photos do you need?

Most photo pieces take 1 to 5 clear photos showing the face and markings well. The Collar Memorial Wall Bust needs front and side views plus the collar measurements. Each product page lists exactly what it needs.

Will I see the design first?

For the Pet Bust, Memorial Angel and Wall Art, yes: you get a proof or preview by email. Other pieces have their own ordering steps on the product page.

How long does it take?

The photo-made busts dispatch in around 7 working days after we have your photos and details, and the Sleeping Cat dispatches in around 7 working days. Delivery time is additional.

A card, a photograph or a commissioned piece?

You do not need to buy a memorial object to acknowledge a loss. A handwritten card, a favourite photograph in a frame or a donation to a rescue the family knows can be enough. Choose a donation only if you know the organisation matters to them, and keep the dedication private unless they want it shared.

A flat photo gift preserves one particular photograph. A sculpted bust interprets the pet’s shape and features from reference photographs. Choose the photograph when that exact image is what they love; choose a bust when a three-dimensional likeness would suit their home. Jewellery is another option for someone who wants a wearable keepsake, but taste and any wish to include ashes are personal decisions.

When the gift is for someone else

There is no single right day to give a memorial. Some people want to choose something straight away; others would rather wait. A short message can make room for either: “I’d like to have something made to remember Milo. Would that feel right, or would you rather leave it for now?”

For a colleague or someone you do not know closely, a card avoids asking them to choose photographs, dates or a place for an object. For a close friend, one specific memory often says more than a long message. You can write: “I’m sorry about Milo. I’ll remember him waiting by the door. Thinking of you; no need to reply.” Use words that sound like you.

Avoid telling them how they should feel, suggesting another pet or promising that a keepsake will make the loss easier. If several people are contributing, agree the piece and wording with the recipient before anyone orders. Children can be involved in choosing a photograph or writing the name, without being asked to make the whole decision.

Three checks before you choose

  1. Place: measure the shelf or garden spot. Check the product’s size and whether it is intended for indoors, outdoors or shelter. A photo-made bust is an indoor display piece, not a garden statue.
  2. Personal details: check the spelling of the name and any dates with someone who knows. Do not guess a date or choose an inscription on the recipient’s behalf if it could be wrong.
  3. Timing: distinguish making time, dispatch and delivery. If a particular date matters, check the current product information before ordering rather than assuming a custom piece will arrive for it.

More questions about giving a memorial

Is it too late to send a gift after several weeks?

No. You can acknowledge the pet later without apologising for the timing or expecting a response. Ask whether a physical memorial would be welcome if you are unsure.

What if I do not have suitable photographs?

Do not select an unclear image just to keep the gift a surprise. Ask for photographs, choose a piece that needs no photo or let the recipient choose later. The custom bust product page also has a gift option that lets you send the photos later.

Can I buy an urn as a surprise?

It is better to ask. Keeping ashes, choosing the container and deciding where it will go belong to the owner. A display sculpture and an urn have different jobs.

Does a bigger gift mean more?

No. A card with the pet’s name and a memory can be the whole gift. Choose what suits the person, not what fills the most space.
